Day 2 of 3
I will show a combination of mid-way and completed works to demonstrate my technique and process. I will bring specialized lacemaking equipment so participants can familiarise themselves with this art form and the required material. Although deeply ingrained in tradition, there is room for experimentation and innovation in lace-making. I intend on developing pieces with students using a mix of traditional and non-traditional working materials such as cotton, silk, linen and metallic threads. Each thread type yields a unique and individual product which will break away from your traditional grandmother’s lace. Like most fine craft, experimentation and innovation comes with a strong, basic understanding of the aforementioned technique.
